Students meet Atlantic rower

A recent assembly guest was Ian Rowe, the aptly named crew member of the Atlantic Odyssey Challenge. A team of six men rowed across the Atlantic in January in a mission to break the sub-30 day barrier in ocean rowing. However in a dramatic turnaround of events the boat capsized after 27 days and nights at sea and 500 miles away from their destination, Barbados. They spent 14 hours in a life raft until a Taiwanese cargo vessel came to their rescue. In his talk, Ian described how the crew worked together to help each other when the boat capsized and the lessons they learned from the experience and the disappointment of not quite making it. The talk was a fascinating insight into their journey. Read more about the Atlantic Odyssey Challenge.
