Dunannie children enjoy storytelling workshop with bestselling author

Children at Bedales Pre-Prep, Dunannie, enjoyed a day of storytelling workshops with the author and illustrator of best-selling award winning children’s book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.

The authors, Ronda and David Armitage, enthralled the children from Reception to Year 3 with tales from the latest in the Lighthouse Keeper series of books as well as new titles aimed at young children. As Ronda read to the children, David sketched favourite scenes from the books and the children watched enthralled as the book’s main character, Mr Grinling, took shape. They later took part in a book signing, with a ‘happy reading’ message inside each of the books.

As traditional at this time of the year, the school organised a Harvest Festival to gather produce to give to the residents of Ramscote care home and Stonepillow, the charity that supports homeless people in Hampshire. The Festival also featured music, drama, poetry and prayers, with every year group performing their own unique composition for the audience.

Commenting on the beginning of the Autumn term, Jo Webbern, Head of Dunannie, said, “We thoroughly enjoyed the visit of Ronda and David Armitage. Their books are very popular with the children and many of them are now the proud owners of their own signed copy. Each class created a new illustration of a Mr Grinling story and the children are very pleased with their results which are on display around the school. Our Harvest celebration was very impressive – the imagination and creativity of the children and teachers produced a thoroughly enjoyable programme”.
