Writer in residence: Niall Griffiths

Novelist Niall Griffiths was in school last week from Monday to Thursday as writer-in-residence. As well as seeing about 40 students individually about their creative writing, he led the creative writing group on Monday evening. On Tuesday he spoke at Civics about the experience of having his third novel, Kelly+Victor, made into a film for which he and director Kieran Evans co-wrote the screenplay. The film had its premiere at the London Film Festival last month. Niall spoke about how his characters initially come to him as voices, so it mattered less to him what the actors looked like than that they spoke his words and played out his story without compromise. Altogether Niall put in four days of incredibly hard work and left a great deal of inspiration behind him. Read more.
