Focus on activities: Orchestra

I enjoy playing double bass in all three of Bedales’ orchestras: Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra, all of which are usually fun and challenging to play in. Taking part in the orchestras has helped improve my sight-reading and intonation, which are two key factors in playing that have helped me succeed in my music exams. I find myself playing in at least two concerts each term, varying in venue from our own Quad to St Luke’s Church in Chelsea. At the end of the school year I will be travelling with the Chamber Orchestra on another trip abroad, I believe this time it will be to France, whereas previously it’s involved performing in various ancient churches scattered across Tuscany. I have also been given the opportunity to play as a soloist backed by the orchestra in the final term, which will be an interesting challenge.
