Soaring on the wind

At last Monday’s assembly, Mark Davenport, glider pilot and air traffic controller, gave an inspiring talk on the pleasures of soaring on the wind and the opportunities available for gliding at the world’s largest gliding centre at Lasham, just 25 minutes from Bedales. He was ably assisted by Ben Pringle who started by gliding and has just qualified as a commercial airline pilot. Our third guest Michael Oakley explained how gliding was a pastime that he started at school many decades ago and he was still enjoying well into his retirement. The intention is to develop an activity, probably in the Summer term due to light levels, for Bedales students to experience gliding first hand at Lasham.
