Bedales appoints new Deputy

Bedales has appointed a new Deputy Head to commence in September this year. Louise Wilson, currently a Deputy Head at Portsmouth Grammar School, will be replacing Dominic Oliver, who leaves Bedales to take up the role of Headmaster at Lancing College.

Louise, who has a First Class degree in Hispanic Studies and a PGCE in Spanish and French from King’s College London, taught initially in the maintained sector before becoming Head of Spanish at Charterhouse. Following eight years at Charterhouse, Louise moved to Millfield where she was Head of Languages and an Assistant Houseparent.  In 2010 she became Deputy Head (Academic) at Portsmouth Grammar. In addition to her passion for modern languages, Louise has been involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and sports’ coaching.

Commenting on her appointment, Keith Budge, Headmaster of Bedales Schools, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Louise to the Bedales community in the next academic year. During the comprehensive interview process with students, staff and governors, Louise impressed with her acumen, enthusiasm and insight into education.”

Paying tribute to Dominic Oliver, Keith Budge commented:

“It came as no surprise when Dominic was offered the headship of Lancing. Bedales has benefited hugely from Dominic’s compassionate and intelligent management of the senior school. He has juggled successfully the many competing priorities and demands in running a boarding school – always putting the best interests of the young people to the fore – and with a strong dose of humour. We wish him and his family well when he takes up the reins at Lancing in September.”

Bedales comprises three co-educational schools co-located on its 120-acre estate in Steep: the Pre-prep (Dunannie); Prep (Dunhurst); and the independent senior school. The role of Deputy Head, Bedales Schools includes responsibility for the day-to-day running of the senior school as Managing Head.
