Dr Oswyn Murray, a fellow of Balliol College, Oxford since 1968, gave Civics on the subject of how Classics helped in the fight against 20th century Totalitarianism. He focused more on the challenging nature of Classics and how he thinks it is the most eminent of all the humanities. The idea that Classics has so many different disciplines that are containedwithin the same subject is immensely appealing. Oswyn talked about his distinguished past at Oxford and how he taught Boris Johnson and many other MPs in his time there. Also, he described how Classics was an intellectual escape and type of rebellion for the learned under Soviet control of Eastern Europe. His enthusiasm was immensely infectious and his talk full of anecdotes of his past.
